CFM’s new engine will become the “heart” of China large plane

The LEAP-X style engine which is produced by CFM company is regarded as the first one of the third generation of civil aircraft engines, and it is composed of high pressure compressor, high pressure turbine and combustion chamber.

According to report, in recent days, American general electric company proclaims that they are considering offering aircraft engine to China’s undergoing research of civil large plane with group of seven summit in France. Now Chinese business aircraft enterprise is putting in a lot of energy in developing and manufacturing the newest single aisle aircraft which is called C919, and it chooses CFM’s engine as the only cooperative enterprise abroad, according to the estimation of Chinese business aircraft enterprise, in the following 20 years, there is a demand of approximate 2000 aircraft in global market, and CFM is committed to developing and manufacturing aircraft, now it has become one of the most successful aircraft enterprise in the world.

Here is the current research of developing LEAP-X style engine, at the present, the compress ratio of single-stage turbine in core machine is 16, at the middle of 2011, they will test the compress ratio of double-stage turbine and the initial stage of design should be done by the end of this year, then CFM will finally decide whether to choose single-stage turbine or not according to the analysis of data. CFM enterprise says that they want to have higher heat efficiency, and they increase that through the increase of core machine’s temperature, at the same time, ensure the efficiency of turbine and durability. They also want to do them best in the following aspects, firstly, compared with CFM56style engine which is assembled in Boeing 737 series airplane and Airbus A320 series airplane, the engine’s oil consumption of LEAP-X style engine reduced by 16%, if they combine new aircraft technology, the oil-consumption can be reduced more. Secondly, at the aspect of high bypass ratio in improving combustion efficiency, they try to increase it from 5.5 to 9, that is an amazing progress. Thirdly, decrease the weight of LEAP-X engine significantly.  cfm1
